Since 1974, La Cheim has developed a robust continuum of care to help vulnerable and marginalized children, adolescents, and adults throughout Alameda and Contra Costa Counties and the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
Our educational services include a non-public school and an in-home therapeutic behavioral services program. Our mental health services include a short-term therapeutic residential treatment center for male-identified youth, as well as a Community Mental Health Center that provides mental health day treatment for adults, and school-based therapeutic services for Oakland youth.
Our success lies in the caliber and compassion of our team, which includes teachers, therapists, counselors, psychiatric providers, psychologists, nurses, social workers, peer providers, mentors, and volunteers. Together, we strive to create equitable, inclusive, and life-changing experiences for children and adults in the communities we serve — many of whom have been written off as “difficult” or hard-to-reach by the traditional systems of care. Our approach to treatment is flexible, respectful, empowering, and humane — treating clients as fellow travelers through life who bring their own expertise and wisdom to bear as they utilize our support to recover, heal, and grow.
