YOUR CHILD’S FIRST VISIT
We want every visit that you and your child have at Alameda Pediatric Dentistry to be a wonderful, positive experience. Our pediatric dentists and dental team of friendly professionals completely understand how stressful the first visit to the dentist can be for your child.
It’s our mission to set our young patients up with the confidence they’ll need to maintain excellent oral health, so we’ve put together some helpful information here.
It’s natural for kids to be a little nervous about their first dental appointment, but there are some things you can do early on to help prevent unnecessary anxiety for your little one. In the days leading up to your child’s first visit, we recommend avoiding certain words like “hurt,” “shot,” “needle,” and “drill” when talking about the dentist. These words might trigger concern or fear if linked to an experience they haven’t had yet and don’t understand.
Books and videos about going to the dentist can help get them excited about their visit. We especially love: The Tooth book by Dr. Seuss, Peppa Pig, Daniel Tiger, and Dora are all great books that share stories about going to the dentist.
