Backyard Gardens
Our backyard garden program builds food self-sufficiency by empowering low-income families, childcare providers, senior centers and community groups to grow fresh produce for their own communities. We construct raised-bed gardens and provide on-going mentorship to ensure that gardeners feel supported as they grow their own food.
Community Garden
Many members of our community lack space for a garden at their own home or site. At the West Oakland Farm Park, we provide raised bed garden plots for individual families and community groups. Gardeners receive on-going mentorship, support and seedlings from our on-site greenhouse, and have 24-hour access to Youth Crew
City Slicker Farms' Youth Crew is a paid summer program that introduces youth to food justice and urban agriculture. Youth Crew members work from June through August and often volunteer throughout the school year.
Farm Tours & Work Days
We welcome group tours and service learning workdays at the Farm Park, as well as offsite garden builds and community projects.
Food Justice Allyship
Allies commit to volunteering at least 8 hours per week for a minmum of 3-4 months. The allyship is an unpaid position that provides valuable experience and school credit to post-secondary students.their plot. To request a plot in our community garden program click on the link below.
Farmstand
At our weekly sliding scale farmstand, you can pick up fresh, chemical-free produce that was grown right here in West Oakland. Participation in our farmstand requires an application to ensure that we are primarily serving high-need members of the community.
Nutrition Demo
Alongside our farmstand, we provide weekly nutrition demostrations in our nutrition demo area at the Farm Park. Figuring out how to use freshly grown vegetables can often hold people back from eating healthier foods. We help by providing healthy recipes, tips/tricks for cooking and storing, and by answering various queries about food and nutrition.
