Ruby's Place is a non-profit agency in Hayward, California that has provided shelter and supportive services since 1972 for families and individuals experiencing domestic violence, and more recently human trafficking. Ruby's Place was one of the first shelters for women and children in the Bay Area established by community volunteers. The Vision of Ruby's Place: Safe and stable families, one person at a time. The mission of Ruby's Place is to provide prevention and supportive services to the community and people impacted by domestic violence and human trafficking. Their staff are multi-cultural and multi-lingual to ensure our clients receive the most culturally comfortable interactions.
There are currently 3 shelter locations all staffed by a shelter manager who is fluent in English and Spanish and who also provides supportive services for the residents.

Ruby's Place provides shelter and support services to families and individuals, who are homeless for any of the following reasons:
-Domestic Violence
-Human Trafficking
-Financial Hardship
-Eviction
-Loss of Employment

Crisis Services:
-24 Hour Crisis Hotline: someone is available 24 hours per day to talk to you. Call (888) 339-SAFE
-Emergency shelter for families and individuals.
-24 hour emergency pick-up for incoming clients from a public location.
-24 hour over the phone crisis intervention, counseling and safety planning.
Case Management Services:
-Peer Counseling—Counseling for all shelter clients regardless of the issues, counseling in all languages.
-Case Planning—Individualized and comprehensive plans for each adult and child including employment, housing, medical, legal, educational, and advocacy.
-Employment Assistance—Includes resume preparation, reference letters, transportation to and from interviews, interview readiness and coaching, and dress for success clothing.
-Educational Counseling and Assistance in Enrollment—Educational needs assessment, school and program research and readiness counseling, assistance in application for enrollment and counseling for class enrollment.
-Budget and Finance Counseling—Customized plans for financial independence and security.
-Housing Search and Application Assistance—Open subsidized housing notices, preparation of applications, assistance in obtaining all required documents.
-Housing Follow-up and Placement Assistance—Follow up on all housing applications by mail and phone, application to outside agencies for deposit and furniture costs, provide client with basic household items.
-Referrals and Application Assistance to Linkages Transitional Housing when Applicable—Individual case management, application preparation, and advocacy for placement in HUD linkages transitional housing program.
-Court Accommodation—Accompaniment to court hearings and advocacy when needed.
-Restraining Order Services—Restraining order preparation, accompaniment to submit, process server when applicable, and pick-up of approved/denied restraining order.
-Cal Works, GA, WIC, Food Stamp and other Social Service Assistance and Advocacy—Application preparation, accompaniment to social services and advocacy for any delay in services.
-Immigration Support and Counseling—Immigration needs assessment, preparation of paperwork for U-Visa and T-Visa and referral to an immigration attorney.
-Transportation—To appointments, interviews, child care, court and to off-site services.
Therapeutic Services:
-Psychiatric Referrals—Assessment of therapeutic needs and referrals by a licensed therapist ofr psychiatric needs as applicable.
-Mental Health Counseling and Therapy (CBT & EMDR to address trauma & PTSD)—Individual assessment of therapeutic needs, individual weekly therapy.
-Life skills Counseling—Weekly group counseling on life skills issues like employment.
-Parenting Education and Counseling—Weekly group counseling and educational courses regarding all parenting issues.
-Domestic Violence Counseling, Support, and Human Trafficking—Weekly group counseling.
-Victims of Crime advocacy and application assistance.
-Family therapy
-Infant-parent psychotherapy
-Aftercare mental health services including home visits
Children's Program Services:
Children’s Individual Group Therapy and Educational Play—Weekly therapy and educational groups that focus on healing from trauma and having fun.
-Age and Stages Questionnaire for each child—Standardized assessment for needs and goals, information is used to coach parents and set goals for proper development.
-Tutoring Program—Tutoring for children twice per week, grades kindergarten through high school.
-Parent and child bonding activities and field trips.
-Parent guidance and discipline techniques.
-Advocacy for educational and developmental delayed services.
Other In-Shelter Services:
-Perishable and Non-Perishable Food: Basic food items are provided on a daily basis to make meals for each family, kitchen is available daily.
-Weekly one on one counseling and group counseling for monolingual Spanish speaking clients.
-Laundry facilities.
-Playground for children.
-Entertainment and children’s games, arts & crafts, books, for children.
-Kitchen, dining room and stocked pantry open daily—free of charge
-Clothing closet for shelter clients, families and individuals’ clothes, shoes and undergarments—free of charge.
-Resource center with computer and internet access.
-Access to a phone for local calls and longer distance when it pertains to housing, job search, or social services.
