• Detailed Information

  • The Psychiatry Department at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland focuses on whole-child wellness. Provide specialized psychiatric services to children in the Bay Area, kids brought to the hospital’s emergency room with behavioral emergencies, and pediatric inpatients who are currently under our care. Experienced clinical staff includes psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and psychiatric nurse practitioners, all of whom work closely together in collaborative teams.  

    The department sees youth age 5-18 for diagnostic evaluations, individual and family therapy, crisis intervention, and psychopharmacological management of psychiatric conditions.

    Referral Guide Services: Outpatient Mental Health Services: Providing evaluations, individual and family therapy to children ages 5 through 21 and their families. We also schedule appointments at our specialty care offices in Walnut Creek. 

    Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT): Providing Emergency Room evaluations of children with suicidal ideation, behavioral crises or possible need for psychiatric hospitalization 

    Inpatient Consultation-Liaison Service: Serving hospitalized children and families with a wide range of familial, behavioral and psychiatric difficulties affecting their child’s medical care—children and adolescents with both acute medical problems and chronic illnesses are seen by our staff and trainees 

    School-based Clinics: Serving Castlemont High School and McClymonds High School in Oakland.
