Looking for a job in Oakland? Know of a business that is hiring? The Oakland Public Library’s “Oakland Has Jobs” is an online bulletin board where job opportunities all over Oakland (and beyond) are shared. It is an Instagram account – check it out at www.instagram.com/oaklandhasjobs or follow it on Instagram at @oaklandhasjobs. You can view it on your computer or on your phone.
Developed by Brian Boies, a Teen Librarian at the Oakland’s Main Library TeenZone, “Oakland Has Jobs” is a photo driven site. When people see a help wanted sign they can photograph it and submit it by email with the cross streets to oaklandhasjobs@gmail.com. Photos can also be submitted by direct messaging @oaklandhasjobs on Instagram or hashtagging their Instagram pictures with #oaklandhasjobs. People who are looking for work can follow the feed and see all the jobs available around Oakland and in adjacent cities.
Boies explains how the idea came about: “As a librarian, patrons of all ages often ask me if I know of anyone who’s hiring, so I created this account to put a lot of new job opportunities in one place. Many of these postings aren’t on Craigslist or other sites so this is a healthy supplement to more familiar job search resources.”
New jobs are posted every day (except a few Sundays). By mid June of 2018, the site had over 5,500 posts and 5,700 followers.
