The Oakland Community Counseling Center provides a safe setting where adults, children, adolescents and seniors can find inner strength and direction through affordable personal counseling. Our counselors are advanced MA Counseling Psychology graduate students working under the supervision of licensed, professional psychotherapists. Clients receive active support while exploring such issues as:
-Life transitions
-Family conflicts and parenting
-Relationship problems
-Trauma, grief and loneliness
-Spiritual crises
-Anxiety, stress and depression
-Incest and sexual abuse
-Chronic pain and illness
-Sexuality (all sexual orientations welcome)
Low-fee therapy groups are also offered, focusing on women’s and men’s issues, intimacy, depression and creativity.
Staff
Advanced graduate students in the Counseling Psychology program at JFK
University's College of Graduate and Professional Studiesprovide counseling.
All counselors work under the supervision of licensed, professional
psychotherapists.
Counselor trainees receive traditional clinical training specializing in either
a transpersonal or somatic perspective. Their training prepares them to assist
people with exploring their life challenges and seeing how these challenges
relate to their thoughts, emotions, body, spirit and environment.
Appointments
Appointments are offered on weekdays, evenings and Saturdays. The center is
unable to accommodate drop-ins, but you are welcome to come by to discuss the
services offered. The center is wheelchair accessible.

Referrals
Referrals will be made to other agencies for individuals who are acutely
suicidal, potentially violent, suffering from severe psychiatric illness, or
actively abusing drugs or alcohol.
Potential client calls main number and requests an intake. During intake, best to have client describe briefly what type of therapist they would best be matched with, and they will be asked about their presenting challenges. Services are provided by MFT Trainees, under direct supervision (both group and individual), at the Center.
Fees
Affordable, sliding scale fees are available for individual and family clients.
Low fee groups are also available.
Transportation to Oakland
From BART
Take 19th street station exit. Go north east on Broadway and walk up to 24th
Street. Take a right onto 24th, and walk up to Harrison Street. Turn left onto
Harrison and cross the street. The Counseling Center is located in the back of
the First Congregational Church. You may reach it via the Church driveway on
27th or Harrison Street. It is about a 15-20 minute walk.
