Residential Services
- Crisis Residential Treatment
Short-term residential services for individuals in active psychiatric distress who need support to cope and heal.
We provide respite, individual and group therapy, family support, crisis management, and a long-term plan for wellness and recovery
- Housing Fast
We get people off the streets and into temporary housing. Housing Fast programs have a determined focus on helping people exit to stable housing, while helping create the conditions for long-term success.
While participants are getting back on their feet, finding sustainable jobs, getting mental and physical healthcare support, and re-adjusting to living inside, our Housing Specialists work on housing solutions in the community.
- Recuperative Care
We help homeless and housing insecure community members who have been hospitalized for a physical illness or injury, promoting long-term health and wellness.
People in need will have access to short-term residential support as they heal, care coordination, nursing support, mental health support, and more.
BACS’ Recuperative Care programs are rooted in and dedicated to culturally competent, client-led, and strengths-based care. Clients are treated with respect and dignity.
Intentional Care
- Wraparound Services
We do intensive, individualized care coordination with the most vulnerable people – community members with intensive behavioral health needs, and lifelong cycles of trauma, substance use, complex healthcare needs, patterns of housing instability and homelessness, incarceration, and/or poverty.
Our goal is that each person gets focused attention on their unique needs, with wide-ranging support, until they are stable in the community. We help people achieve lasting stability through creative, coordinated community support, rather than relying on expensive and uncoordinated inpatient & emergency services.
Our services are strengths-based, recovery oriented, and help participants take the next step in life. We advocate for clients to get the benefits, healthcare, and housing that they need.
We empower people to have a “voice and choice” in their care and treatment. We “wrap around” participants and their families, tapping into their resilience and strength, to help them stabilize, recover, and live a fulfilling life.
- Supported Employment
We support people with complex needs, behavioral health challenges, co-occurring disorders, or who are experiencing homelessness to find and maintain competitive, satisfying employment. Most participants start the program when they are unemployed or under-employed and need support to uplift themselves from poverty.
Using the Individualized Placement and Support (IPS) evidence-based model, we start by helping people figure out what they want to do, including a rapid vocational assessment, and how they want to get there.
Then, we help them quickly prepare for work through resume building, job interview practice, dressing the part, and more. The goal of the program is to get people working right away as opposed to spending a long time on unnecessary skill development.
- Wellness Hubs
We help visitors build an individualized wellness plan so they can live lives that are healthy, fun, and active by creating natural support. Wellness Hubs are a place to build community, independent skills, and get support.

Housing Solutions
- Prevention
Preventing homelessness is one step closer to ending it – so our goal is to keep everyone housed.
Nobody wants to experience homelessness, so BACS is working to prevent homelessness before it starts.

-- Keep Oakland Housed prevents residents from losing their housing through a three-pronged approach: emergency financial assistance, supportive services, and legal representation. KOH is a collaboration between BACS, East Bay Community Law Center, and Catholic Charities of the East Bay, funded through the San Francisco Foundation, Crankstart, Kaiser Permanente, and other generous philanthropists, in partnership with the City of Oakland. - Housing Fund
Our goal is to permanently end homelessness by creating more and better housing opportunities in the community.
We provide incentives and support to help landlords in our community to fill their units with people in need and open new units to help solve the housing crisis.
We provide permanent and time-limited rental assistance, transitional and ongoing tenant support, mediation for landlord/tenant relationships, and a 24/7 hotline for housing emergencies.
We have a determined focus on regional approaches to ending homelessness, while preserving the spirit of our community and preventing displacement. We are doing whatever it takes to address all parts of the housing crisis.
- Project Reclamation
BACS buys single-family homes, remodeling them to function as co-living environments where each person gets their own bedroom, lock, and key. Homes are often in the neighborhoods where residents grew up, preserving our community and preventing displacement.
Project Reclamation strengthens neighborhoods without disrupting nearby renters and homeowners.
We serve community members who would otherwise be unable to live independently due to complex physical or mental health issues, or other barriers like a history of incarceration or homelessness.
Each resident is paired with a Care Coordinator who helps with their unique needs – job support, benefits assistance, mental health support, and money management. Rental incomes are fixed and significantly lower than average rent in the area, which covers operating expenses over time.
