Here, residents of Alameda County can receive access to social services, such as CalWORKs (California's version of TANF, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families). CalWORKs is a cash assistance program for low-income families to get their basic needs met. It also provides education, employment, and training programs to help families find jobs and move towards self-sufficiency. CalWORKs is for pregnant women, Adults or Teen Parents (with dependent children/minors under age 19). You can apply for CalWORKs through an online application (see attached application URL) or by visiting a local county office (Eastmont Self-Sufficiency Center). CalWORKs cash assistance has a 48-month lifetime limit for adults, but children can remain on aid if otherwise eligible under the Safety Net program. The CalLearn program also offers special services for pregnant and parenting teens. At the Eastmont self-sufficiency center, families can also apply for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and see if they are eligible for the food stamp program.
