Afterschool Center
The BYA Afterschool Center targets children and youth, ages 6-14, who are working below grade level in order to improve their overall literacy skills and to introduce them to the world of computers. During the academic year, Monday- Friday, 1:30pm to 6:00pm, we provide afterschool and computer services. Activities include tutoring, recreational activities, health education, crafts, music, dance and computer instruction.

BYA Career Development and Prevention Center
BYA Career Development and Prevention Center prepares youth and young adults ages 16-24 with the skills necessary to enter the workforce.
BYA administers multiple employment readiness strategies for youth and young adults ages 16-24. BYA stresses HIGHER EDUCATION for all participants, either in the form of community college or quality vocational training. To be eligible for most summer jobs, youth need to be enrolled in a year-round workforce program. At the current time, slots are limited to residents of Alameda County.

Roc Program - mental health counseling
MediCal eligible clients can utilize our unique and complete Family Support and Case Management Services titled, The ROC Program.Each client is assigned a case manager to assess and help the client and his/her family/guardians design treatment plans to support these strengths and provide support where needed.
ROC offers the following services: Case Management to facilitate comprehensive social services, counseling for Individuals and Families, counseling / Life Skills Groups on leadership, anger Management, drug awareness, meal Preparation/nutrition, pre-vocational training, recreational and Art Therapy, and compliance with court ordered counseling and restitution agreements.
Youth from ages 6-14 can participate in an afterschool program that provides structured groups to support daily living and social skills. Young adults ages 14-21 can participate in structured groups and work practicums to support positive social skills, support daily living, encourage leadership potential, and increase personal satisfaction about life choices.

Berkeley Youth Alternatives Youth and Family Opportunity HUB department
BYA’s Youth and Family Opportunity HUB works with the following schools: REALM Middle School, REALM High School, Berkeley Technology Academy, Albany High School, Island High School-Alameda, Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School, Longfellow Middle School, Arts Magnet Elementary, Cragmont Elementary School, and Rosa Parks Elementary School.

Environmental Training Center (ETC) is a youth internship program for ages 16-24
Focusing on food justice and delivering fresh food to the community. Includes an urban gardening program, culinary and nutritional information, and a work readiness program. Each intern also has a counselor who provides case management, academic support, and college planning.
ETC is a youth internship program for youth ages 16-24. Youth learn basic work ethic, professionalism and skills necessary for future employment.
Urban Gardening Program
Youth garden interns are hired to maintain the 1/2 acre Bancroft Community Garden and the 1/6 acre BYA Community Orchard. The Bancroft garden is also the home of a community garden with plots available to Berkeley residents. Youth learn sustainable agriculture practices, produce handling and distribution, and nutrition education. Culinary and Nutrition Education
Through culinary and nutrition education , youth are able to see the link between their food choices and mental / physical well-being. ETC integrates cooking, disease prevention and nutrition into our garden intern program. Have a look at an interactive showcase of our Commercial Kitchen.
Roots of Success: Environmental Literacy and Work Readiness Program
The Environmental Training Center offers participants an opportunity to complete various modules in the widely successful Roots of Success program (http://rootsofsuccess.org/). The curriculum aims to increase participants' core academic and professional skills, while exploring green jobs and career pathways, and preparing participants for a career to improve the conditions in their communities.
