Girls Inc. of Alameda County delivers life changing programs that inspire girls* to be strong, smart, and bold. Girls Inc. gives girls and gender expansive youth the right tools and support to succeed, including trained professionals who mentor and guide them in a safe, girls-only environment. At Girls Inc., girls learn to set and achieve goals, boldly confront challenges, resist peer pressure, see college as attainable, and explore nontraditional fields such as STEAM.
*“Girls” refers to gender-expansive youth (cis girls, trans girls, non-binary youth, gender non-conforming youth, gender queer youth, and any girl-identified youth).
PROGRAMS:
ACT (Advocating Change Together) Program
Thursday, 5:00 - 6:30 PM
In ACT, girls and gender expansive youth in grades 9-12 learn about the social systems we live in and how to be a part of the change moving forward. In the ACT program, participants will gain and hone their leadership and advocacy skills, working and learning alongside other youth who want to be a part of change in the communities they care about. Program meets once a week, 5:00-6:30pm and a stipend is provided for participation and attendance.
HEART (Helping Everyone Achieve Respect Together) Program
Tuesday, 5:00 - 6:30 PM
HEART provides an opportunity for girls and gender expansive youth in grades 9–12 to learn about reproductive health and sexuality. HEART participants will learn about an array of health and sexuality topics and discuss the issues that teens face on a daily basis- but don’t always talk about – such as Sexuality, Sexual identity, Teen Pregnancy, STDs, Birth Control, Body Image, Drugs/Alcohol, Peer Pressure, and Gender Identity (to name a few!). Program meets once a week, 5:00-6:30pm and a stipend is provided for participation and attendance.
HER (Healthy Evolving Relationships) Program
Wednesday, 5:00 - 6:30 PM
Do you know what love is? Do you know what it is to respect yourself, your partners, and your loved ones? In this program, girls and gender expansive youth grades 9-12 will learn what healthy relationships- from platonic to romantic and everywhere in between- look like. HER participants will come out of this program as advocates for themselves, their friends and loved ones, setting themselves up for a lifetime of happy and healthy relationships. Program meets once a week, 5:00-6:30pm and a stipend is provided for participation and attendance.
Eureka! is a FREE, 5-year program that promotes confidence, sisterhood, college and career readiness for girls. This year we are accepting 40 girls who are currently in their 7th grade year.
